Last weekend, Ealing Fields High School’s under-15 girls’ football team made our borough proud by bringing home the gold at the NFL Flag Championship Europe held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The girls faced off against Germany’s Erasmus-Grasser-Gymnasium in a thrilling final, making history as champions of the competition.
This one-day tournament, which brings together top all-girls teams from the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Austria, and Ireland, is gaining popularity among young women, with flag football emerging as one of the fastest-growing sports globally. Ealing Fields High School has been leading the way in promoting this sport, thanks to their collaboration with the New York Jets NFL Girls Flag League in London.
The victory of our local team showcases the importance of community support and partnerships in nurturing young talent. The event at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a huge success, with Henry Hodgson, general manager for NFL UK and Ireland, commending the London Games for promoting flag football and encouraging youth participation.
This win not only celebrates the hard work of the Ealing Fields High School team but also highlights the increasing popularity of sports within our local community. As we anticipate more events like this, it is inspiring to see how flag football is empowering young women in Ealing and beyond. Congratulations to our talented football heroes for their outstanding performance on the field!
